The problem
Years of moss growth and failed mortar bedding had left the covering holding water, with slipped tiles and repeated leaks around the chimney stack.
Work undertaken
The old covering and battens were stripped and removed from site. Timbers were inspected and made good, then membrane and new battens installed. Clay tiles were laid with a dry verge, the chimney was repointed and re-flaunched, and new lead aprons and side flashings were dressed in.
Materials and system
Clay tiles, treated battens, breathable membrane, dry verge system, new lead flashings and repointing mortar matched to the existing brickwork.
The finished result
A crisp, weathertight roof in a colour that suits the brickwork, with the chimney details renewed at the same time so the whole roof is on one maintenance cycle.
