The problem
The existing covering had reached the end of its life and the homeowner wanted solar installed at the same time rather than fitting panels onto a roof due for replacement.
Work undertaken
The roof was scaffolded and stripped back, timbers checked, and a breathable membrane and new treated battens installed. The slate was set out so the panel array sat squarely within the slope, with dry-fix ridge and hip detailing and new lead to the abutments and around the array.
Materials and system
Slate covering on treated battens over breathable membrane, dry-fix ridge and hip system, code-appropriate lead flashings, and an in-roof solar mounting arrangement.
The finished result
A clean, uninterrupted roof line with the array integrated rather than sitting proud of the covering, and no penetrations relying on sealant.
